PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — In Pittsburgh, we know Dan Rooney as the benevolent owner of the Steelers, but in Ireland he is revered as an expert statesman.
He’s known as someone who took his post as U.S. Ambassador to Ireland very seriously- and apparently held some legendary parties.
Today, Ambassador Rooney steps down from the post he has held since July 2009 and while he has said he will step down at some point, his announcement that he would step down today caught many in Ireland by surprise.
KDKA AM’s Larry and John talk to Chris Donaghue, morning presenter at NewsTalk Dublin, about Ambassador Rooney’s legacy in Ireland and what he has meant to the Irish people.
