In 2005, director Christopher Nolan redefined the Batman legend with Batman Begins, staring Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader. A fresh, dynamic reboot of the franchise, Batman Begins explored the comic book hero’s origins and his evolution from billionaire Bruce Wayne to dark avenger who fights crime and corruption in Gotham City. A 2008 sequel, The Dark Knight, took those compelling character-driven foundations and raised the stakes, pitting Batman against a deranged master criminal, the Joker, in an all-out war for Got ham’s soul. Now, the final film of Nolan’s trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, is the summer’s most anticipated film release.

Athletics: Joanne Cuddihy qualified for the semi-final of the women’s 400m after finishing fourth in her heat this morning.

The 28-year-old finished in a time of 52.09, which was enough for her to progress as the second fastest non-qualifier.

Sailing: Annalise Murphy finished second in the Laser Radial’s Race 7. Xu Lijia of China won the race. Murphy then finished tenth in Race 8. Belgium’s Evi Van Acker won the second race.

For the first time in the competition, Murphy has lost the overall lead.

She is now second on 24 points, with Van Acker first on 23 points. Marit Bouwmeester is third on 26 and Xu of China fourth on 30.

The finished 11th and seventh in Races 9 and 10 today and are ninth.

They will contest the medal race on Sunday.

Things improved for the Irish crew in Race 10, as they came home seventh. However, they could only muster 15th in Race 11.

They lie 11th overall with four races to go to the medal race.

The 28-year-old ran a personal best of 15:31.26 in the 5,000m in June and then a personal best of 9:37.60 in the Steeplechase shortly after.
