John Harvey has been described as the master of British crime and in “A Darker Shade of Blue” he has collected together some of his very best writing. From the killing fields of the East Midlands to the mean streets of London, from the jazz clubs and clip joints of Soho to the barren fenlands of East Anglia, this is a world of broken families and run-down estates, revenge killings and prostitution, drugs, guns and corruption; a world of overstretched police forces and underpaid detectives, men and women who strive nonetheless for a kind of justice; and, a world in which everything, even friendship, has a price. Featuring characters like Frank Elder, who tried to turn his back on police work and failed; Jack Kiley, ex-copper and one-time professional footballer, now a London-based PI; and, the renowned jazz loving and much-loved Detective Inspector Charlie Resnick, John Harvey’s finely-crafted vignettes perfectly encapsulate life in the badlands of modern Britain.

    About the Author

John Harvey is the author of the richly praised Charlie Resnick novels, the first of which, Lonely Hearts, was named by The Times as one of the ’100 Best Crime Novels of the Century’. His first novel featuring Detective Inspector Frank Elder, Flesh and Blood, won the CWA Silver Dagger in 2004, and a Barry Award for the Best British Crime Novel published in the US in 2004. He is also a poet, dramatist and occasional broadcaster. In 2009 he was made an honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of Nottingham. For more visit http://www.mellotone.co.uk

In the sequel to Russell’s best-selling biography ‘My Booky Wook’ we follow the now sober but still scandalous, sex-fuelled star on his electrifying rise to international fame. A roller coaster ride through tours, films, stand up and tabloids – this time, it’s personal.

Rarely has a sequel delivered on the promise of the original with such literary and comic gusto. In Booky Wook 2: This Time It’s Personal, Russell Brand takes off where his international best-seller My Booky Wook left off. Brand is sober and, after dedicating his life and compromising his sanity in the pursuit of fame, he has had his first taste of national notoriety. Does fame bring happiness and inner peace? Not exactly, but it does mean a lot of sex. It also ushers in an unforgettable and raucous ride through chat shows, tabloid scandals, and Hollywood, all the while detailing Brand’s search for the contentment that fame can’t quite grant. Booky Wook 2 is a ‘celebrity memoir’ unlike any you’ve read before: more clever and inventive than ever, Russell Brand explores the consequences of massive stardom just as he demonstrates the power of language and wit to make sense of it all.

    About the Author

Russell Brand is a comedian, journalist, TV presenter and actor. He has won numerous awards including Time Out’s ‘Comedian of the Year’, ‘Best Live Stand-up’ at the British Comedy Awards, ‘Best TV Performer’ at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards, ‘Most Stylish Man’ at GQ’s Men of the Year Awards. The first instalment of his autobiography, My Booky Wook, was a No.1 Sunday Times bestseller. It also won the Tesco ‘Biography of the Year’ award at the Galaxy British Book Awards.

This important new book picks up where Dr Deepak Chopra left off in his pioneering work Ageless Body, Timeless Mind. Having revealed the connection between our health and our thoughts, Dr Chopra shows us how to create a whole new self – the self we want to be – in this revolutionary sequel. Dr Chopra explains how the body is a reflection of the mind, ‘a symbol in flesh and blood of everything you think and feel’. From early childhood each one of us has invented our bodies and our personalities through our beliefs, conditioning and responses to everyday stress. But we have mostly done this unconsciously, which is why we may now feel unfulfilled. Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul will help us to reconnect with our ideal sense of self, guiding us one step at a time through a remarkable process of renewal and discovery. Chopra invites us all to live from the soul, to satisfy our deepest desires in a life rich with joy and meaning. ‘You are inventing your body in every moment of life,’ he reasons. ‘Why not take control and reinvent it from the highest level?’

    About the Author

Acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest leaders in the field of mind/body medicine, Dr Deepak Chopra trained in India and the United States, and now runs the Chopra Center for Well Being in California. He has written over thirty books, which have been translated into thirty-five languages. He lectures and conducts seminars and workshops around the world. Visit his website at http://www.chopra.com

Yet for people who struggle with difficult emotions like anxiety, guilt, anger, loneliness, sadness, or low self-esteem, mindfulness practices can be enhanced by adding a simple yet powerful ingredient: self-compassion. Without it, we all too often respond to emotional suffering with self-criticism, shame, or defensiveness — tough-to-break habits that only make suffering worse. This wise, eloquent, and practical book illuminates the nature of self-compassion and offers easy-to-follow, scientifically grounded steps for incorporating it into daily life. Vivid examples and innovative exercises and techniques make this an ideal resource for readers new to mindfulness or those who want to take their practice to the next level.

After sixteen months of travelling round the Mediterranean in search of the ancient secrets of the olive tree, Carol returns to her beloved olive farm in the south of France, to her husband Michel and his burgeoning family. However, the homecoming celebrations are overshadowed by disturbing discoveries. The plight of the honey bee has become an international crisis and Carol is faced with unsettling news about the hives on her own olive farm. The bee colony that has regularly wintered at Carol’s farm has been decimated while she was away, poisoned by insecticides. While the multinational companies are pushing for ‘bigger, better, bumper’ crops, a small band of farmers and ecologists are calling for a halt to many of the modern farming malpractices that are endangering the planet. Carol is amongst them. But it puts her own farm, her idyll, under threat. At what point do you turn your back on all that you believe in and all that you have been fighting for? This is the story of how Carol and Michel struggle with some difficult choices, and how they decide to deal with the unavoidable disappointments and inevitable responsibilities that come with running an organic farm. We all know the saying, “better than sex.” Some people say that chocolate is better than sex. Others say that bungee jumping is better than sex. Still others claim that drugs are better than sex. Supposedly, there are a lot of things out there that are better than sex. However, I never use this phrase because, to me, there is nothing better than good sex. And in my opinion, people who use this phrase probably have never had good sex and most of the time it probably isn’t even their fault. It’s because they’re sexually shy. Due to their upbringing or other factors in their lives, they become overly inhibited. This is what is keeping them from having the good sex that they deserve.

That’s what this book is about. It’s about the stuff you need to know that no one bothered to tell you. It’s about getting over your sexual shyness and freeing yourself to get to that better sex. Exploring subjects such as exhibitionism, repression, and oral sex, Sexually Shy: The Inhibited Woman’s Guide To Good Sex is a must-read for anyone seeking a more fulfilling, less inhibited sex life.
