Past Jobs: She has worked as a teacher, bookseller and librarian
Why did she begin to write:
“I always kept a diary and I love to read. I read like a professional reader. When I gave up a successful job as an academic librarian to nurse mum I continued to read and write. I began to use writing as a form of escapism from watching mum suffering and as an outlet for expresssion. I started writing short stories which were published in the local newspapers. Then I thought what if I could use my two loves reading and writing and make a living from them. I could write a novel, maybe. Slowly and surely for 14 hours a day I began writing. Soon I had thousands of words and a novel. I called it The Honey Trap. My mum encouraged me to continue and she had paid my university fees. I dedicated the first book to her. She believed in me from the very beginning. I read it sentence to sentence at night when I walked the floors with her when she could not sleep with the pain. I do the nightshift minding mum and dad does the days. I love to read to her and she is always very honest about my work. My work is general fiction and chic lit and they all have feminist undertones. My first book The Honey Trap is about three women with perfect lives whose lives crash as a result of their husbands illict dealings. At first they fall into pieces and end up in rehab but they turn their lives around. They find in themselves an inner strength to keep the family together. They plan revenge and create a new life. They built a new island and call it Paradise. The islanders and themselves write a new constitution and new lifetsyle for all”.
Staying with the feminist theme Annette’s second book is called Always and Forever: Katie The Rose of Tralee. It is a romance about two farmers kids who are childhood sweethearts who date and marry. Katie plans the wedding like General Patton and organises the building of a beautiful new home on the family farm. As the settle into marry life and have a family the poor days pass but fate deals them a cruel blow. The arrival of a letter and a DVD ends the happy marriage. The females in the tale are the heroines. It is a celebration of the sacred feminine, their inner strength and unconditional love of their families. These books are currently on sale on Http://www.amazon.Com.
Her current project:
Annette is currently working on her third novel. The Ryan Report has provided the impetus to write a fictional book about young females in orphanages. It makes for horrifying reading. Ireland failed these little children and women. I believe these stories must be told so they are never repeated or forgotten. I want to give these fictional characters a voice.
Daily Routine:
I do nights with mum so I go to bed at 8 am and then I sleep until 2 pm. I rise and do the housework, shopping etc. At four o clock I check emails and do correspondance. I write then solid through the night. I do this five days a week and at weekends I work for only three hours a day, after tea.
What Next:
I am seeking an agent and a regular social column or book review slot in a magazine or newspaper.
